Earlier this year Sanyo introduced a new pan focus technology. No matter what distance from the camera this new pan focus technology allows a video security camera to focus on every object that can be seen through the camera lens. This development has some incredible benefits for the security and surveillance industry by increasing the effective area covered by each digital security camera because all the viewed area can used rather than having to have overlapping cameras to cover the areas which were not in focus.

Some people would rightly ask the question – what is the difference between pan focus and auto focus. Pan focus is always in focus but not adjustable. The lens is set to hyper focal distance and at the largest possible aperture. Auto focus is where the camera focuses on some exact point or object and anything in behind or in front of the object may well be out of focus.

Before the new pan focus system it was generally not feasible to achieve a high resolution image together with a large depth of field. Sanyo produced a unique lens providing a high picture quality and high resolution. Obviously this was the start of a stunning solution. In simple terms Sanyo were then able to use this new lens and together with digital processing were able to provide a sharp well focused image in any part of the captured data or frame.

The pan focus system really helps in all security and surveillance systems. If you select a digital focus camera for your own domestic security then you will be assured that you’ll be able to see clearly anything the camera captures and writes away to the disk storage. Similarly in a large commercial or business surveillance operation the security personnel can easily observe images and identify suspicious situations because all the objects are in focus. Prior to the pan focus digital camera it would be an all too frequent event occurrence for example to have a vehicle captured on screen but the license plate was out of focus.

Although Sanyo developed this technology there other major manufacturers now with similar offerings. The Sanyo VDC-DP7584 is a good example of an all weather, color, dome camera mounted in a vandal proof housing. Even the installation of these new cameras makes for a much easier life and reduced cost because there is no need to worry about checking what may or may not be in focus.
