Home Surveillance Cameras
The use of home surveillance cameras can be beneficial to you. When you’re away, these cameras can serve as your eyes. Some systems nowadays even have automated phone dialing systems programmed to dial authorities when you’re home is being infiltrated.
Home Surveillance Cameras Inside the Home
Home surveillance cameras are available in various housings transmitting a signal to a recording device or a monitor. Cameras commonly used inside of the home are wireless, wireless IP, hidden, and hard wired cameras. Each of the cameras operate in a different manner.
Wireless
Home wireless cameras transmit a signal to a monitor and/or a recording device. Wireless cameras normally transmit video only. They also have the capability of transmitting audio and video. A camera with a microphone will create video and audio transmitted to a receiving device such as a portable monitor, a DVR or some other recording device. A wireless camera with a portable monitor provides a practical solution for monitoring small children. The monitor will provide for constant visualization of a new born baby or when mom and dad are doing laundry or some other task. The portable monitor and camera permit flexibility. Where ever the child is the camera can also moved easily. The same is true for the monitor. A TV, computer screen or a monitor designated for the purpose of monitoring the camera are also possibilities for monitoring a portable wireless camera. Cameras with a portable monitor are available in many different styles and shapes.
Wireless IP and Hardwired
Wireless IP and hardwired cameras are used inside the home for remote home surveillance to provide surveillance while away on a vacation or at work. Two way conversations over the internet are possible with a wireless IP or a hardwired camera containing a microphone, and speakers. The requirements are a high speed internet connection and a computer capable of handling the video transmission.
Wireless IP and hardwired cameras transmit a signal to a storage device such as a hard drive on a computer or a DVR. Both systems have the capability to transmit over the internet and to a remote location with the proper equipment. An excellent feature of a wireless IP camera is they can easily be moved from one room to another, where as a hardwired camera is pretty much stationary. The viewing of the IP camera is done on a monitor or computer screen. Video from an IP camera is recorded to a hard drive on the computer.
Remote home surveillance is the ability to see the observation of a surveillance camera from a computer at a distant location. In our modern age of technology this is accomplished with a computer or a 3 or 4G cell phone. The one stipulation is the IP camera or a DVR requires an ethernet or high speed internet connection to transmit the signal over the internet.
Hidden Cameras
A hidden camera is used to capture a specific area inside or outside of a home or business without being visible. They are concealed in various housings to record a specific area of the home. The cameras are inserted into books, clock radios or just about any thing anyone can think of. The cameras are very difficult to detect unless you really look hard or know where the camera is located within the housing. Hidden cameras are used to collect video of suspicious events in the home.
Hidden cameras are all in one devices recording to a SD card or a USB recording device. Micro cameras are used to transmit a wireless signal to a monitor or recording device. They are powered by batteries or have the capability of being plugged into a wall outlet transmitting a signal to a receiver, monitor or a combination of both. All in one cameras are powered with batteries or an electrical plug. Hidden cameras are used to keep an eye on a child, a pet, or a suspicious event.
Understanding the various home surveillance cameras will give insight when selecting the right camera for the right home application.
The goal at The Surveillance Cameras is to provide information to understand the application of different optical devices used in home and business surveillance.
